Mom's Best Fudge

This recipe is a family favorite, passed on to me from my mom.  This year I sprinkled crushed candycanes on top after letting it set for a minute or so.  It added a nice subtle peppermint flavor to this rich, ooey gooey yummy fudge!

INGREDIENTS
4 cups sugar
1 (12oz.) can evaporated milk
2 sticks butter (1 cup), cut into chunks - not margarine!
18oz. chocolate chips
28 large marshmallows
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1 pound chopped nuts, optional

DIRECTIONS
Boil sugar and milk for 10 minutes (not longer!), stirring constantly. The last 2 minutes, add the butter, Remove from heat and add chocolate chips, marshmallows, vanilla and nuts. Stir until smooth and melted. Pour into 9x13-inch pan and let set in refrigerator overnight.

Try topping with crushed candycanes or holiday sprinkles for a twist on a great recipe!

Makes 5 pounds.
